Independent, honest inspections that used-car buyers across Sydney rely on before they buy.

BMW

A Used BMW Rewards the Careful Buyer

A used BMW delivers driving pleasure few cars can match, and Sydney's market is full of tempting 3 Series, 5 Series and X-model SUVs. But BMWs are complex and expensive to repair, and the difference between a great buy and a money pit comes down to knowing exactly what to check.

The mechanics know BMW's weak points: timing chain issues on some diesel engines, oil leaks from the valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets, cooling system and water pump failures, VANOS and electronic faults, and worn run-flat tyres and suspension.

Our local mechanics inspect at the vehicle, road test it properly, and give you a clear, honest verdict so the badge never blinds you to a looming repair bill.

Get Quotes From Local Mechanics

We are not a mechanic. We are a referral service that puts you in touch with our local mechanics, so you can compare and choose instead of ringing around yourself.

We are not a mechanic - we are the referral network

Sydney Mobile Car Inspections does not carry out inspections itself. We check the ABN and licence of our local mechanics, then pass your details to the ones covering your area. They call you, quote their own price, and do the work - so you get a local expert without ringing around yourself.

1

Tell us what you need

Answer a few quick questions about the car, the suburb it is in, and when you would like it looked at. It takes about a minute.

2

Get quotes from our local mechanics

We alert our local mechanics who cover your council. They call you with their price and the earliest time they can get to the car.

3

Choose who you go with

Compare what you are offered, pick the mechanic you are happiest with, and arrange it direct with them. No obligation either way.

Two levels of inspection to ask for

Standard Inspection

The usual choice
  • Visual inspection of all major systems
  • Road test included
  • Engine & transmission check
  • Brakes, tyres & suspension
  • A call afterwards to walk you through it
Get a Quote
Each mechanic sets their own price, so you get a quote rather than a fixed rate. Tell us which level you want and they will confirm the cost before anything is booked. We refer across seven councils in Western Sydney: Hawkesbury, Blacktown, Penrith, The Hills, Parramatta, Cumberland and Fairfield.

We check the ABN

Every one of our local mechanics is a registered business, and we confirm it before we refer anyone to them.

We check the licence

Motor vehicle repairer licences are verified so the person looking at your car is qualified to be doing it.

No dealer ties

We only refer independents. Nobody in the network takes a commission from a seller or a yard.

You stay in control

Asking for a quote costs you nothing and commits you to nothing. If none of it suits, walk away.

FAQ

BMW Inspection Questions

Common questions about pre purchase BMW inspections in Sydney.

Are used BMWs expensive to run?

They can be, which is exactly why an inspection is essential. Common BMW faults - oil leaks, cooling failures, timing chain issues on some diesels - are costly to fix. Knowing about them before you buy lets you negotiate or walk away.

Should I inspect a BMW that still has service history?

Yes. A stamped service book is reassuring but does not reveal current oil leaks, cooling problems, electronic faults or accident repairs. Our independent inspection tells you the real condition of the car today.

What if the seller won't allow an inspection or doesn't show up?

That is a major red flag. A genuine seller has nothing to hide and will welcome an independent inspection. If a seller refuses one, the safest move is to walk away. Never pay a deposit or sign any contract until the car has been inspected and any faults are sorted. On the day, if your nominated contact does not answer, we call and text, wait 15 minutes, try once more, then agree the next steps with you - your booking is never wasted.

How much does a BMW inspection cost and how soon can you come?

Each mechanic in our network sets their own price, so you get a quote rather than a fixed rate. Send us the make, model and year and the suburb the car is in, and a nearby mechanic will call you with their price and the earliest they can get there. Most inspections are arranged a few days ahead; urgent and after-hours jobs can usually be sorted too.

How It Works, Start to Finish

Our local mechanic inspects the car and keeps you informed at every step - whether you come along or leave it to them.

Two ways to inspect

You meet the mechanic there

Turn up at the car, watch the checks first-hand and ask questions on the spot. Tell us in your request that you want to attend and the mechanic will work around you when they agree a time.

They inspect on your behalf

Can't be there? The mechanic carries out the full inspection for you, then calls you with the findings once they have finished. You never have to take the seller's word for it.

From booking to results

1

Tell us about the car. The make, year and the suburb it is in, plus anything you are worried about.

2

We alert local mechanics. Your details go to our local mechanics who cover that council.

3

They call you. The mechanic quotes their price and agrees a time window with you directly.

4

On the day. They ring the seller about 20 minutes before arriving, then inspect the car on site.

5

Get the results. A clear verbal summary, plus a written report if you asked for the Comprehensive Inspection.

What if the vendor doesn't pick up?

It rarely happens - most inspections run exactly to plan. But if we can't reach your nominated contact, we don't simply leave. The mechanic makes three touchpoints across about 35 minutes: a call around 20 minutes before arrival, a call and text on arrival, and one more call after waiting 15 minutes. If there is still no answer, the mechanic rings you personally to agree the next steps - your booking is never wasted.

Standard & urgent inspections

Most are arranged a few days ahead, inside 8am to 8pm. Need it sooner, or outside those hours? Say so in your request and we will flag it to the mechanics.

Every mechanic is checked

We verify ABN and licence before a local mechanic joins the network, and we only refer independents with no dealer ties.

Cars only

Sedans, hatchbacks, wagons, SUVs, 4WDs, AWDs, utes, vans, people movers, coupes and convertibles. Not motorbikes or trucks.

Classic, luxury & exotic cars

These take longer and need extra expertise, so we match them with one of our local mechanics who knows the marque. Expect the quote to reflect that. As a guide:

  • Classic - generally 30 years or older, or a recognised collectible.
  • Luxury - premium marques such as higher-end Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Land Rover, Jaguar or Porsche.
  • Exotic - supercars and rare high-performance models such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Maserati, Aston Martin or Bentley.

Not sure which applies to your car? Put the make, model and year in your request and the mechanic will confirm everything in their quote - no surprises.

Minimise the risk of buying a second-hand vehicle

A used car is one of the biggest purchases you'll make, and the seller isn't on your side. An independent mechanic going over the car, and a plain-language walk-through of what they found, put the facts in your hands before you sign anything or hand over a deposit.
